Queens Business Owner Remains on Life Support Day After Being Shot in Head by Robbers in Suits: NYPD

The business owner shot by three men in dress suits during an armed robbery in Queens Monday remains on life support, police said, retracting their earlier statement that he had died.

Hani Kasem, 53, was shot in the head during the robbery at 101st Avenue in Ozone Park Monday. His son was also injured in the robbery.

The NYPD said Tuesday morning that Kasen had died. Police now say he remains on life support, and his wife, who lives outside the U.S., is traveling to New York and will make the final decision regarding whether he'll be taken off life support.

Witnesses said they heard a gunshot and ran outside to find a man shot in the head. His son, who had a deep gash above his eyebrow, was seen chasing after the men with what appeared to be a set of nunchucks. The son even kicked the well-dressed robbers as they made their getaway.

Alister Alsuran said he spoke to the son afterward: "I think he said they hit him with a gun and they were trying to shoot him, and he got the magazine from them. I don't know how he did it."

Surveillance video show three men in suits running down 101st Avenue and hopping in a black car.

It's not clear what the men wanted. Kasem and his son are in the wholesale business and don't allow many people inside, neighbors said.
