Moscow Open to Putin Visit in Washington, Russian Envoy Says

Moscow is ready to discuss a possible visit by President Putin to Washington after a surprise invitation from President Trump, Russia's ambassador to the U.S. said. With confusion still swirling around what the two men discussed behind closed doors in Helsinki earlier this week, Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said it's important to "deal with the results" of their first summit before jumping too fast into a new one. He said he hadn't seen Trump's invitation himself, but that "Russia was always open to such proposals. We are ready for discussions on this subject." The Kremlin has the final say, but hasn't responded yet to the proposal Trump made. Antonov gave a few more details of what Trump and Putin talked about in Helsinki, but insisted that diplomatic discussions should remain discreet in order to be effective.

11 Dead, 7 Injured as Sightseeing Boat Flips in Missouri

Divers in Missouri are expected to resume a search for five missing people after a sightseeing boat capsized and sank on Table Rock Lake near Branson. The incident left at least 11 people dead, including children, and seven others injured. A spokeswoman for the Cox Medical Center Branson said four adults and three children arrived at the hospital shortly after the incident. Two of the adults are in critical condition, they said. The boat, an amphibious vehicle known as a duck boat, had 31 people on board, Sheriff Doug Rader told KY3. Multiple dive teams from a number of law enforcement agencies were assisting in the rescue and recovery effort. Search operations are being suspended until Friday morning, according to the local sheriff. The National Transportation Safety Board said in a tweet that it is also sending a team to investigate the incident.

NFL, Player's Association Freeze Anthem Rules Amid Backlash to Miami Policy

Miami Dolphins players who protest on the field during the national anthem could be suspended for up to four games under a team policy issued this week. The "Proper Anthem Conduct" section is just one sentence in a nine-page discipline document provided to The Associated Press by a person familiar with the policy who insisted on anonymity because the document is not public. It classifies anthem protests under a large list of "conduct detrimental to the club," all of which could lead to a paid or unpaid suspension, a fine or both. The Dolphins said in a statement: "The NFL required each team to submit their rules regarding the anthem before their players reported to training camp. We will address this issue once the season starts. All options are still open." Miami can choose not to issue any suspensions nor fine any player who protests the anthem. Some of the other "violations" listed under "conduct detrimental to the club" include drug use or possession, gambling, breaking curfew and riding motorcycles as a driver or passenger from the start of camp until the last game of the season. Several hours later, the NFL and NFLPA issued a joint statement regarding policies related to the anthem, saying "No new rules relating to the anthem will be issued or enforced for the next several weeks while these confidential discussions are ongoing."

Swiss Rolls Recalled Over Salmonella Concerns

A popular snack treat is being recalled nationwide over potential salmonella concerns. Swiss Rolls, sold under a variety of brand names including H-E-B and Great Value, are being voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer over the possible presence of salmonella in one of the treat’s ingredients. Mrs. Freshley’s, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker’s Treat, Market Square, and Great Value brands are all impacted by the recall nationally, and several southern states are impacted under the Captain John Derst’s Hold Fashioned Bread brand name. Salmonella can cause serious, or even fatal, infections in young children and the elderly. No human cases have yet been reported in connection with the recall.

Crystal Geyser Charged With Illegal Toxic Waste Disposal

A California bottled water company has been charged with illegally disposing of arsenic-tainted wastewater. Federal prosecutors announced charges against the company that bottles Crystal Geyser water and two companies that transported and dumped the toxic waste. Prosecutors say the companies failed to disclose the contents on shipping manifests and it was taken to a facility not permitted to treat hazardous waste. A message left with a CG Roxane spokeswoman was not immediately returned. The U.S. attorney's office says there is no allegation the bottled water was tainted. Naturally occurring arsenic was filtered out of water and discharged in a pond near the company's facility in Calistoga, just north of Santa Rosa. It was later trucked to a facility near Los Angeles for disposal.

Comic-Con Programming Kicks Off With “The Predator”

Actors Sterling K. Brown, Oliva Munn and Keegan-Michael Key have gotten the first day of programming at San Diego Comic-Con off to a lively start with an intense look at "The Predator" reboot. Speaking to some 6,500 audience members in the convention's biggest programming room, Hall H, director and co-writer Shane Black describes his film as the "dirty half-dozen" and "leaner and meaner" than the original from 1987. Black also acted in the first film and isn't the only legacy involved in the new installment. Gary Busey's son Jake Busey also appears in the film. Busey notes that at 46, he is the same age his father was when he was in "Predator 2." 20th Century Fox is releasing its "Predator" reboot in theaters nationwide on Sept. 14.
