Alleged Pug Puppy Pilferer Arrested on Long Island

Police arrested a 43-year-old woman who allegedly pilfered a pug puppy from a pet store on Long Island last month.

Suffolk County police say Krista Kazan, of Happauge, is believed to be the woman seen on surveillance cameras walking into the Yippity Yap Feb. 18 and walking out with a purebred pup that hadn't been paid for.

Kazan is accused of snatching the puppy from a play area at Yippity Yap, putting it in a large handbag she had on her shoulder and leaving with the nearly $2,000 pug in tow.

Police say the dog was returned to the store by a family member the day after they released the surveillance photo of the alleged thief.

Kazan was arrested at her home March 16 and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.

She was arraigned Sunday. Information on an attorney wasn't immediately available.
