NYC Protester to Ted Cruz: ‘You Should Not Be Here'

The men who were seen leaving the restaurant appear to be members of a Bronx rap duo

A man upset about Ted Cruz's immigration policies was tossed out of a Bronx restaurant after he heckled the Republican presidential candidate, according to NBC News and other published reports.

NBC News reports the heckler was asked to leave Sabrosura 2 as Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, made the rounds at the Soundview restaurant. The heckler followed Cruz around and began yelling once he reached the back of the business, calling the candidate a bigot and a racist.

According to the Daily News, the demonstrator said "you're running an anti-immigration platform, and you're speaking in the Bronx. You should not be here."

More than half of the Bronx’s nearly 1.5 million residents are Hispanic or Latino, according to 2014 census data.

After the outburst, the demonstrator and another were seen on video leaving the restaurant. One was speaking loudly in Spanish as he walked by an area where members of the press had staged, and two police officers followed them out of the restaurant.

The two men seen leaving the restaurant appear to be members of the Bronx rap duo Rebel Diaz.

"Holdin court in front of @tedcruz press wall after interrupting his event in #TheBronx with some important questions," the group tweeted afterward.

Cruz did not speak about the heckler to the media after the event.

Cruz is Cuban-American, and became the first Latino to win a caucus or primary with his victory in Iowa this election cycle. But the next day, La Opinion, among the largest Spanish-language newspapers in the nation, spoke with several activists and political observers who said that many Latinos don’t see Cruz as having a Latino identity.
