Authorities say a power outage has affected thousands of homes and businesses in Monmouth County.

The outage appears to be centered in the Tinton Falls-Eatontown-Red Bank area. It began shortly before 5 p.m. Monday.

An outage map posted on the Jersey Central Power & Light website indicates more than 10,000 customers have been affected.

Affected communities include Red Bank, Neptune, Ocean Township, Marlboro, Holmdel, Asbury Park and Eatontown.

A message left for a JCP&L spokesman was not immediately returned.
