Police Standoff Ends With Man Shooting Self: Officials

The standoff went on for more than three hours Sunday night.

A 34-year-old man was found dead from a self-inflicted wound after firing shots from his Queens home, where he was in a standoff with police for more than three hours.

The NYPD says officers responded to the Glendale apartment shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call from the man's wife who said he had texted her threatening to kill himself.

Police say the man fired several shots at police but didn't hit anyone. Officers did not return fire.

A police negotiating team attempted to make contact with him.

When police entered the apartment around 10 p.m., they found the man dead in the bathroom.
