Police Shoot Knife-Wielding Man: NYPD

Police shot and injured a man they say was attacking a woman with a knife on Sunday.

Officers were called to the apartment building on Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. In the building's lobby, they saw a man attacking a woman with an 8-inch blade, according to police. The officers ordered the man to drop his weapon, and they shot him in the torso when he didn't comply, police said.

The 32-year-old woman and 34-year-old man were brought to different hospitals in stable condition. The two officers were treated for tinnitus.

The suspect, 34-year-old Juan Rosario, was charged with attempted murder, acting in a manner injurious to a child, criminal possession of a weapon and three counts of felony assault.
