Police Search for Man Who Tried to Kidnap Bronx Teen

The suspect was driving a white cargo van

Police are searching for a man they say tried to kidnap a 16-year-old girl in the Bronx on Saturday.

The suspect, pictured in the police sketch above, allegedly approached the teen at around 7:30 a.m. while she was waiting for the BX36 bus on Randall and Olmstead avenues. The man, who was driving a white cargo van, opened the side door and tried to force the girl into the vehicle by grabbing her arm, officials said.

The girl said she was going to Central Park to work on a project with friends when she was accosted.

"The man drove by in a white van, got out and asked how old I am," she said. "Then, he grabbed my arm and pulled me toward the van."

The victim fought off the man and fled, and he drove away on Randall Avenue in the direction of Castle Hill Avenue, police said.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
