Police Officers Seriously Hurt in Fall Off Truck at Jersey Shore Boardwalk Fire

The officers had worked overnight at the scene and were being transported out of the fire zone when they fell

Three police officers who worked overnight at the scene of the Jersey Shore boardwalk fire were seriously hurt Friday when they fell off a moving truck that was taking them out of the fire zone.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said the officers were sitting on a bench in the back of a military-style vehicle when the seats gave way and they tumbled onto the debris-filled roadway.

Gov. Chris Christie said the officers all had head injuries.

Two were being airlifted to trauma centers and another was being taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Officials say the officers, two men and one woman, worked overnight to secure the site of Thursday's devastating boardwalk fire.
