Three police officers who worked overnight at the scene of the Jersey Shore boardwalk fire were seriously hurt Friday when they fell off a moving truck that was taking them out of the fire zone.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said the officers were sitting on a bench in the back of a military-style vehicle when the seats gave way and they tumbled onto the debris-filled roadway.
Gov. Chris Christie said the officers all had head injuries.
Two were being airlifted to trauma centers and another was being taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Officials say the officers, two men and one woman, worked overnight to secure the site of Thursday's devastating boardwalk fire.
