Police Kill Man in Brooklyn After Bar Fight

Three guns were recovered and no arrests have been made

A brawl in a Brooklyn bar where patrons were smacking each other with barstools turned deadly on Sunday when plainclothes police officers fatally shot one armed man and wounded a second, authorities said.

Kevin White, 43, who was working as a security guard at the Norwood Palace Sports Bar in the Cypress Hills neighborhood, was firing into the establishment when officers arrived and shot him, police said.

He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An unidentified 19-year-old man also was wounded by the officers as they arrived about 3 a.m. and spotted him with a gun in the doorway of the club, police said. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

"As I was running back into the DJ booth, shots rang out, then plainclothes cops rushed in," Timothy Stokes, who was working as a DJ at the bar, told the Daily News. He said the fight was over a spilled drink.

"I heard cops yelling, 'Put the gun down. Drop it, drop it!'" Stokes said.

Three guns were recovered at the scene. No one answered the phone at the bar Sunday afternoon.
