Police are investigating shooting involving officers in Manhattan.
Two special victim unit detectives were on their way back to their stationhouse in East Harlem after making an arrest for an attempted rape Tuesday night and encountered a shooting in progress at East 101st Street and 1st Avenue, police said.
That's where a gunman shot at another man walking ahead of him, hitting the 21-year-old victim in the torso and leg before the victim began running northbound on 1st Avenue to try to get away, according to police.
The gunman continued to chase after the victim until he encountered the detectives, police said. The plainclothes officers identified themselves and ordered the suspect to drop his gun.
The suspect pointed his gun toward the detectives, and one of the detectives fired two rounds at the suspect in response, hitting him in the torso, police said. He was then tackled to the ground.
The suspect was taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition; the other shooting victim was taken to Metropolitan Hospital in stable condition.
A gun was recovered at the scene. Charges are pending against the suspect.

The two detectives were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital for ringing in the ears.
Law enforcement sources say investigators are reviewing surveillance video that shows part of the shooting on the sidewalk.
