Cops Shoot Knife-Wielding Man in Brooklyn Home: NYPD

NYPD officers responding to a 911 call at a Brooklyn home were met with a knife-wielding suspect, sparking a confrontation that ended with the suspect being shot by police, authorities say.

The officers went to the home on Hancock Street in Bushwick Wednesday evening for a report of a woman being assaulted, police said.

When the officers arrived, a man in the home grabbed a knife and began to cut himself in the hand and arm, according to law enforcement sources.

He then lunged at the officers with the knife, and an officer fired a single shot at the suspect, hitting him in the stomach, the sources said.

The suspect was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition with non life-threatening injuries. No officers were hurt.

Neighbor Jasmine McPhatter said she was walking from her house to the store when she saw the police officers pull up.

"I saw them run in, I heard a shot and then the girl screamed," she said. "I ducked, because anytime you hear something like that you just duck. Then I just ran to cover at the store."

The shooting came two days after two NYPD officers responding to a robbery in the Bronx were shot by an armed suspect. One of the shot officers was released from the hospital Wednesday as the suspects in case were arraigned.
