Authorities are looking for a pair of police imposters they said robbed an family at a home on Long Island.
The Nassau County Police Department said that one of the men approached an 81-year-old man as he raked leaves at his home on Little Whaleneck Road in East Meadow Tuesday afternoon while wearing some sort of black uniform.
The 81-year-old didn’t speak English, so he took the man to his son, 49. That’s when authorities said he presented what appeared to be a police badge.
Police said the man asked if there was any money, drugs or weapons in the house and called for his accomplice with a walkie talkie.
The two fake cops then forced the father, son, the man’s 71-year-old wife and their 43-year-old daughter into a bathroom in the home and ransacked the place, police said. The family came out of the room about 30 minutes later, and discovered more than $3,800 had been stolen.
No one at the family’s home answered the door when NBC 4 New York tried to reach out for comment on Wednesday.
But neighbors said they were shocked to hear of the robbery. Reggine Mevs said she’s not going to let anyone claiming to be an officer in her home unless she sees a badge or patrol car.

“It’s a total shock,” she said. “Those are really nice people. I feel really bad that this happened to them."
Police said the robbery appears to be isolated, and it’s not clear why the family was targeted.
