Police Hunt for Suspect in Series of Armed Robberies at Long Island Stores

An armed man made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from a Pier 1 Imports on Long Island Sunday after holding employees and customers at bay in the rear of the store, police said.

The gunman entered the store in the hamlet of Huntington Station at about 7 p.m. and after threatening everyone inside the store, forced an employee to open a safe and the cash registers, according to Suffolk County police.

Investigators said the heist was similar to others that have occurred in Nassau and Suffolk counties since Aug. 20. Armed robberies have occurred at Rainbow Shops on Nov. 2 in North Lindenhurst, Avenue Clothing on Sept. 7 in East Farmingdale, New York and Co. on Oct. 12 in West Babylon and Avenue Clothing on Oct. 26 in Deer Park.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call the local Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
