Daughter Finds Elderly Parents Dead in NYC Apartment With High Carbon Monoxide Levels

A woman found her elderly parents dead in their Manhattan apartment early Sunday and carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected in their deaths.

Jadoris Crawford, 71, and John Crawford, 80, were expected to attend Easter Mass with their daughter and family, their son-in-law Gary McFadden told NBC 4 New York. When they didn't answer their phone, the family went to check on them, he said.

"I pushed the door open because I smelled all this gas," McFadden said. "My wife starts screaming."

Firefighters said there were high levels of carbon monoxide in the apartment on First Avenue and 101st Street. An oven was apparently left on, authorities said.

There were no carbon monoxide detectors in the apartment, officials said.

The FDNY and ConEdison were investigating, fire officials said.
