Police Car Strikes, Seriously Injures Pedestrian on Upper West Side

A man was seriously injured when he was struck by a police car on the Upper West Side Sunday afternoon, authorities and witnesses said.

The 69-year-old man was struck by an NYPD squad car on Broadway between 77th and 78th streets, officials said. He was transported to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Police officials said the man had been jaywalking and that the cop car had its sirens turned on.

Police have yet to release the man's identity, or that of the officer who struck him.
