Authorities say police discovered the body of a man in his 20s while responding to a sidewalk trash fire in Brooklyn.

The body was found on Hendrickson Street near Avenue U in Marine Park around 3:50 a.m. Thursday, and his fingertips were missing.

Police and firefighters arrived at the location, behind a furniture store and a private home, after receiving a call of a garbage fire there.

After the fire was put out and the body was found, a U.S. Marshal was also on scene.

Investigators believe an accelerant was used.

The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
