Severed, Cooked Horse Head Found Inside Manhattan Park: NYPD

A woman opened the box and found a cooked horse head, other animal parts, an unopened bottle of Spanish soda and fresh fruit.

A woman walking in a Manhattan park Sunday found a severed, cooked horse head and other animal parts in a beer box Sunday morning, the NYPD said.

The woman was walking through Highbridge Park at West 190th Street and Amsterdam Avenue when she came upon the remains inside a box with Corona logos, authorities said.

Police said the woman opened the box and found the cooked horse head, other animal parts, an unopened bottle of Spanish soda and fresh fruit.

Sanitation Department workers took the horse head and other animal parts after the woman called police.

A couple of people in the area told NBC 4 New York that they had heard of ritual animal sacrifices being made in the park before -- mostly goats and chickens -- but they'd never heard of similar rites being done with a horse.

Anyone with information about the find should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
