Worker Plunges 4 Stories to Death at Manhattan Construction Site: Police

A worker walking across wooden boards bridging the gap over an elevator shaft at a Manhattan construction site plunged four stories to his death when the boards gave way Tuesday, police said.

The worker, a 30-year-old man, landed in 5 feet of standing water that was at the bottom of the elevator shaft after the accident in Hell's Kitchen around 12:40 p.m., police said.

He was taken to a hospital in serious condition, but died less than an hour later.
