A 25-year-old man was killed Sunday morning after being struck by a garbage truck in Brooklyn, authorities said.
According to police, the pedestrian was struck by a New York City sanitation truck while crossing Carroll Street at Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights just after 9 a.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of the truck remained at the scene.
The Department of Sanitation released a statement calling the accident a tragedy.
"The Department of Sanitation offers its deepest condolences to the family of the young man lost today, and the entire Crown Heights community," the statement read in part.
