Pedestrians Struck in Brooklyn, Manhattan; 1 Dead

One pedestrian is dead and another is in the hospital after they were struck in separate incidents in Brooklyn and Manhattan early Wednesday.

Police said one victim was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit near Hamilton Avenue and Court Street in Red Hook shortly before 7 a.m.

Heavy delays were being reported in the area, and it wasn't clear if the driver of the vehicle that hit the victim stayed at the scene.

Earlier, a pedestrian was struck by a sanitation truck near Sixth Avenue and West 55th Street in Manhattan, police said. The truck appeared to belong to a private company, not the city, and stayed at the scene.

Police said the pedestrian hit by the sanitation truck is listed in critical condition at Cornell Hospital.
