Pedestrian Severely Injured by Hit/Run Driver in Queens: Police

A pedestrian in Queens was grievously injured when he was hit by a motorist who fled the scene, police said Saturday.

The victim, a man in his 40s whose identity wasn't disclosed by police, was apparently crossing 93rd Avenue in the Jamaica neighborhood at about 9:20 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a black Toyota RAV4 SUV, police said.

The driver sped away, but investigators said they have surveillance video of the SUV.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center with injuries that police said appeared to be life-threatening.

Residents of the neighborhood told NBC 4 New York that they've witnessed speeders and reckless drivers on their streets.

"They speed down this block," said Anakei Thompkins. "They race down this block."
