Man Dies After Being Hit by Train in Hartford

A 50-year-old Hartford man was hit by an Amtrak train Wednesday night and has died.

Police identified the man as Henry Suder.

Police said he intentionally dove in front of the train and was struck at Windsor and Battles street at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday and pronounced dead at 3:53 p.m., according to police.

Amtrak officials said the train was going from Vermont to Washington, D.C.

"We should be able to determine relatively quickly what the scenario was. We don't expect foul play. Accidental or suicidal seem to be early indicators that we have," Hartford Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley said.

There were 126 passengers on the train when the incident happened and they were not injured, the Amtrak spokesperson said.

Shuttles were sent to the scene to get passengers off the train and onto another.
