New Jersey Police Shoot, Kill Man Who Pointed Gun: Prosecutors

Police in New Jersey shot and killed a man who allegedly pointed a gun at an officer early Saturday, police say.

Etoine Baucum was shot and killed by Paterson police detectives responding to a call about a man with a gun on Montgomery Street at about 2:20 a.m., according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers allegedly found Baucum with the gun when they responded to the scene, and the suspect didn’t comply when he was ordered to drop the weapon, prosecutors say. He allegedly pointed the gun at one of the responding officers, and was shot by another detective.

Baucum, 44, was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Investigators recovered a gun at the scene, prosecutors say. Witnesses have also provided accounts of the shooting.

The shooting is still under investigation by the Passaic Count Prosecutor's Office.
