Paroled Man Charged in Westchester Murder

Was found driving victim's car

A paroled murderer has been charged with burglary in a case related to the killing last week of a woman in her suburban home.

Police in Mamaroneck say the defendant was found driving the victim's car. They identified him as 54-year-old Reginald Powell of White Plains.

A spokesman for the Westchester district attorney says Powell had been convicted of murder in 1984 and paroled in 2008.

Police say Powell is a suspect in the killing of 49-year-old Jennifer Katz of Mamaroneck. However, he is charged only with burglary. Police said they did not know if Powell had a lawyer.

They say Powell was pulled over for a traffic violation in New York City on Thursday-- the same day Katz was found dead.
