New York Parking Officer Sentenced for Stealing $90,000 in Quarters From Meters

A parking enforcement officer has been sentenced for stealing more than $90,000 -- mostly in quarters -- from meters in the village of Mount Kisco.

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said Tuesday that Jeffrey Daday of North Salem will serve up to six months in the county jail followed by about 4½ years' probation.

The thefts occurred over five years, between January 2009 and May 2014.

Authorities say he wore his uniform while depositing $190 to $600 at a time, usually in quarters, into his bank account. The total amount of the theft was $90,893.72, according to prosecutors.

Suspicious bank workers alerted police. Investigators then put Daday under surveillance. He was seen emptying coins from meters into his pants pocket.

He pleaded guilty in September to grand larceny and offering a false instrument for filing.
