A 40-year-old woman is dead after a fire ripped  through the sixth floor of an apartment building in Manhattan.

The woman was found unconscious and unresponsive inside the building on East 115th Street, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She has not been identified. The city medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

The FDNY said the fire was brought under control shortly before 5 a.m. Friday.

They said fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Five people suffered minor injuries in a separate three-alarm fire early Friday at an apartment building in the Bronx. Two firefighters were among the injured. That fire has also been contained.
