2 Killed in New Jersey House Fire

Two people died in a fire that damaged a home in the in coastal New Jersey just before midnight Wednesday, authorities say.

The fire significantly damaged the home on Harding Road in Old Bridge, police say. 

Authorities are withholding the names of the victims and are awaiting autopsy results to determine how they died. 

A neighbor told NBC 4 New York that an elderly couple lives in the home.

The blaze does not appear to be suspicious.

The fire was one of many across the tri-state Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Firefighters in Clifton, New Jersey, North Patchogue, New York, and Yonkers all battled large blazes that significantly damaged multiple structures.

The fire in Yonkers destroyed a home, and one of the residence's two occupants had to jump from a porch to escape the blaze. She sustained minor injuries in the fall.
