Off-Duty Cop Responds to Teen Girl's ‘Please Help Me!' Cry in Subway, Recovers Stolen Phone

An off-duty NYPD officer came to the aid of a 14-year-old girl screaming "Someone please help me!" after her iPhone had been stolen by someone in a Manhattan subway station.

Officer David Kim was in the Lexington Avenue and 59th Street station during rush hour Wednesday when he heard the girl screaming on the N, Q and R northbound platform.

Kim ran over and the girl pointed out a 16-year-old girl who she said had taken her phone. The officer tried to stop the suspect, who then threatened to push him onto the subway tracks, according to police.

Kim identified himself as an NYPD officer and called 911. As he tried to bring both teenagers to the token booth area the suspect became combative, authorities said. She tried to run off when they reached the staircase.

An NYPD officer and transit cop who responded to Kim's 911 call arrived and helped Kim place the suspect into custody. The stolen iPhone 6 was recovered.

The 16-year-old girl was charged with third-degree robbery and menacing.
