Off-Duty NYPD Officer Accused of Drunk Driving in Crash that Critically Hurt 2: Police

An off-duty NYPD officer was accused of drunk driving Sunday morning when he crashed on the Van Wyck Expressway, critically injuring two people, police said. 

Neville Smith, 32, was charged with vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and refusal to take a breath test, the NYPD said. 

He was driving a black Mercedes-Benz when he struck another vehicle on the Van Wyck Expressway and Rockaway Boulevard, police said. 

Two victims in the other car were taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, police said.
