Nursing Home Worker, 82, Dies in Long Island Wreck

Vera Quashie was heading home alone shortly after midnight Sunday when she lost control of her car

Police say an 82-year-old nursing home staffer was killed in a car crash as she drove home from work on Long Island.
 
Suffolk County police say Vera Quashie was heading home alone shortly after midnight Sunday when she lost control of her car and hit a telephone pole. The wreck happened at Route 109 and Albany Avenue in East Farmingdale.
 
The Rosedale resident was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital. Police are checking her 2009 Hyundai Accent to see whether it had any safety problems.
 
Quashie worked at the Berkshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Babylon. No one who knew her there was immediately available Sunday morning.
