Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a nun in the Hamptons Monday evening, police say.
Sister Jacqueline Walsh, 59, of Syosset was found bleeding and unconscious by a passerby along Rose Hill Road in Water Mill.
Walsh had been attending a retreat at a Water Mill convent with her colleagues in the Sisters of Mercy and was out for a walk when she was killed, according to Sisters of Mercy spokeswoman Debi Delaporta.
Detectives found an abandoned 2009 Volkswagen Touareg with damage to the front end about half a mile from the scene of the accident.
Police continue to look for the driver, who is described as 5 feet 7 and in his 20s or 30s with short spiked hair. He was seen wearing dark shorts and a white shirt at the time of the accident.
Walsh served as a pastoral associate at St. Edward the Confessor church in Syosset.
