Lockdown Lifted at Connecticut Elementary School

Police searched the area around Cranbury Elementary School and found nothing suspicious

An elementary school in southwestern Connecticut was placed on lockdown briefly Wednesday morning while police investigated reports of shots fired outside the school, officials say.

Norwalk police were called to Cranbury Elementary School at about 11:30 a.m. after getting a report from teachers about possible gunshots outside. The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Officers searched around the school and at a nearby park, but found nothing that indicated shots had been fired. A construction site is near the school, but police aren't sure whether that's where the sound originated.

The lockdown was lifted around 12:30 p.m., but officers stayed at the school all afternoon.
