Flooding Closes Part of Long Island Parkway, Causes LIRR Delays

A busy Long Island highway was shut down Friday morning after the roadway flooded underneath an overpass.

The Northern State Parkway was closed in both directions at the state Route 106/107 overpass in Syosset.

Traffic cameras show a pool of water collecting underneath the arched stone overpass.

The roadway was closed for several hours, but traffic was moving again by about 10 a.m.

The wet weather was also causing problems on the rails on Long Island.

High water conditions east of Westbury caused 15-minute delays on the Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay and Hempstead branches of the Long Island Railroad.
