Niketown Store to Reopen After Bedbug Scare

Four days after closing its Niketown store in Midtown to rid it of bedbugs, athletic clothing and shoe maker Nike says the store is open again.

The company closed the store on Friday after finding bedbugs. It says they're gone now after several days of using an environmentally friendly treatment program.

A Nike spokesperson wouldn't comment on how the bedbugs found their way into the store, but added in a statement, "We found the bugs in several areas in the store, and we took the necessary steps to eradicate them."

However, another of the company's stores — a smaller Nike Sportswear store in SoHo — is now closed after bedbugs were found there. A spokesman says it should reopen shortly.

Bedbugs have been discovered all over the city, in a theater, office buildings, stores, posh apartments and even district attorneys' offices.

to combat the micro menace the city has launched an information and outreach campaign to help people understand how the bugs are spread and how to get rid of them.
