Newark's New Police Director to Speak

Newark's first female police chief is planning to speak about her priorities.

Sheilah Coley will meet with the media Tuesday, along with her boss, Police Director Samuel DeMaio.

Coley was appointed by Mayor Cory Booker and approved by the Newark City Council after it re-established the police chief position last week.

She'll be dealing with a rising crime rate and the recent unsolved killings of a popular school teacher from Virginia and a female corrections officer.

DeMaio was confirmed last week after holding his position in an acting capacity.

DeMaio was appointed earlier this year to replace Garry McCarthy, who resigned to become police director in Chicago.
