Authorities say stabbings in Newark have left a woman dead and a boy critically injured.

The Essex County prosecutor's office says a boy believed to be 8 or 9 years old was found late Saturday with multiple stab wounds outside New Community Commons, a high-rise apartment building.

He was taken to University Hospital, where authorities say he remained in critical condition Sunday. His name wasn't disclosed.

Authorities say a woman's body was found Sunday morning with stab wounds on a nearby street. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity wasn't released. An autopsy will be performed on Monday.

Authorities are investigating the possibility that the stabbings are related. Investigators say the attacks don't appear to be random.

    No arrests have been made.
