Newark police are investigating a body found in a vacant building Wednesday.

An off-duty police lieutenant found the fully clothed, decomposing body in a building on the 900 block of Broad Street, the prosecutor's office said.

The remains were taken to medical examiner's office to determine a cause of death. The identity of the person is unknown.

Investigators are probing the death as a possible homicide.
