A high school student has died after being stabbed during a fight in Newark earlier this month, authorities said.

Stanley Francois, a 17-year-old junior at Barringer High School, was stabbed Wednesday, Oct. 3 near Park Avenue and First Street, police said. He was taken to University Hospital.

Francois died of his wounds Wednesday, Oct. 10. The death has been classified a homicide.

Police have arrested a juvenile in connection with the fatal stabbing; he's being held at the Essex County Youth House. Police are not releasing the alleged attacker's name because of his age.

Investigation is ongoing.
