NJ Man Arrested in Death of Girlfriend's Daughter

The girl, 2, died of blunt force trauma

Police in New Jersey arrested a 25-year-old man Friday in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl in Newark.

Tyrail Jones, formerly of East Orange, was arrested and charged with murder in the death Wednesday of Alexis Robinson.

Jones was living with Robinson's mother on the 500 block of Elizabeth Avenue, officials said.

The child was initially brought to Beth Israel Hospital with claims of a medical injury, but an autopsy performed Thursday determined the girl died of blunt force trauma, said Essex County prosecutor's office spokeswoman Katherine Carter.

Investigators in Newark were looking into an unrelated baby death Friday, in which a 2-year-old boy was shot dead.

Jones was expected to be arraigned after Jan. 1. Attorney information was not immediately available.
