New York Yeshiva Destroyed in Fire

A Rockland County yeshiva has been destroyed following a raging fire on New Year’s Day.

The fire started in a dormitory at Yeshiva of Rockland in Spring Valley sometime around noon.

Only one person suffered minor, non-life threatening injures in the fire that took 80 firefighters and 5 local departments to put out.

Several students were inside the dormitory at the time of the fire.

“People were running, everyone was running,” said student Shlomo Steinhaus.

Steinhaus said students who ran across the street could only see flames after firemen knocked down the walls of the religious institution.

While the building was destroyed, the Yeshiva World News reports the Torah was safely removed.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
