FBI, Police Raid Rockland County Buildings For Fraud Investigation: Sources

Scores of FBI agents and local police officers raided dozens of locations Wednesday in Rockland County looking for evidence in an ongoing fraud investigation, law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York.

Investigators seized records, computers, and boxes from businesses and residences in Monsey, Airmont, Spring Valley, Ramapo, and Suffern, the sources said.

An FBI spokeswoman said the agency and local police were executing federal search warrants as part of a federal inquiry.

The Journal News reports that the investigation centers on allegations that some yeshivas in the county allegedly defrauded the federal E-Rate Program, which was begun in 1998 and provides money to schools and libraries in low-income communities for the purchase of computers and Internet access.

No arrests were made during the raids, law enforcement sources said.
