New Jersey Man Arrested After 2-State Chase

A 57-year-old New Jersey man has been charged in New York after police say he led them on a vehicle chase while trying to elude officers from both states.

Authorities tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown that Dennis Gleason of Franklin was being pursued by police from Vernon, New Jersey, for a traffic violation early Tuesday morning when he crossed the state line into the Orange County town of Warwick.

Spike strips deployed by Warwick police disabled three of the four tires on Gleason's car, but police say he drove 14 miles on the car's rims at speeds exceeding 75 mph before crashing and being caught.

Gleason was charged with reckless driving and unlawful fleeing of a police officer. It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.
