Islanders Unveil Subway-Inspired Goal Horn

The Islanders’ new goal horn will sound very, very familiar to millions of New Yorkers.

The team’s new arena, the Barclays Center, debuted the new horn – which sounds exactly like the high-pitched whine of a subway horn – Monday night on Twitter.

The blaring sound, which will play every time the home team scores, was designed with the help of the MTA.

It’s a different sound from nearly every other NHL team, which mimic freight train horns to varying degrees. The crosstown Rangers also use a train horn sound when their players score.

Despite the New York tie, dozens of Islanders fans immediately lambasted the noise on Twitter.

"it's bad enough we're forced to ride the MTA. PLEASE don't ruin our joyous goal moments by reminding us this," tweeted Matt Ruzz.

The team will play its first game at the Barclays Center on Oct. 9.
