NY Officials Plan Announcement on LI Arena Deal

New York Islanders owner Charles Wang and local officials plan to discuss the future of the property surrounding the aging Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Officials did not disclose details, but Newsday reported Tuesday that Wang has reached a deal with Nassau County officials. The pact reportedly gives him control of the 77-acre parcel surrounding the arena.

Both Wang and County Executive Ed Mangano were to discuss the deal Wednesday at a press conference.

Wang and local officials are seeking voter support for a $400 million bond issue to replace the arena.

Officials have set an Aug. 1 date for a vote on renovating the 39-year-old coliseum.

Without a new arena, Wang has hinted he might move the hockey team when his lease expires in 2015.
