Authorities in Britain say a dentist from New York who helped a U.S. organization search for American servicemen missing from World War II has died after scuba diving in the English Channel.
The coroner's office for Kent confirmed Wednesday that 63-year-old Dr. Bruce Hottum, of Glenford, died last week. An investigation is underway.

Hottum went to the Palau Islands in the Pacific in 2015 to search for American MIAs from World War II. Hottum's dental practice partner says he was exploring a WWII plane wreck site when he was stricken.
Hottum attended NYU College of Dentistry and did his residency at Bellevue, according to a biography on his office's website.
