NYC's Citi Bike Share to Expand in Brooklyn, Manhattan

New York City's bike share program is expanding into Brooklyn and further into Manhattan.

Scott Gastel, a spokesman for the city's Department of Transportation, says Friday that 140 new Citi Bike docking stations are being added.

Officials say the expansion will bring the bike share service up to 110th Street in Manhattan and to six Brooklyn neighborhoods, including Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says putting the new bikes into transit-deprived areas shows the city's commitment to bolstering every community and battling inequality.

The mayor has promised the bike share network will eventually span all five boroughs.

Citi Bike says the additional stations will make the network more convenient for riders. The group plans to have 12,000 bikes and 700 stations by the end of next year.
