A crowd of mourners sang prayers and waved Israeli flags in midtown Manhattan as they honored the memory of three Israeli teens whose bodies were found after they had been missing for two weeks.
Nineteen-year-old Eyal Yifrah and two 16-year-olds, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Fraenkel, disappeared June 12 while hitchhiking home from the Jewish seminaries where they were studying near the West Bank city of Hebron. Their bodies were found by the Israeli military on Monday. Fraenkel had dual Israeli-American citizenship. His grandparents had moved to Israel from the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn in 1956.
The crowd started their memorial outside the Israeli consulate and then marched to the United Nations nearby. They carried signs with the teens' photographs. Another sign said, "May their memories be a blessing."
