NYC Report: Murders Down, Homelessness Up

Mayor de Blasio is releasing the first partial report card of his administration.

The Mayor's Management Report is an annual snapshot of city operations. It covers the fiscal year, which runs from July 2013 to June 2014.

De Blasio took office January 1. Prior to that, the city was led by Michael Bloomberg.

The city, which has benefited from improved local economy, has avoided layoffs that would impact services.

The number of homicides has gone down even as the overall crime rate increased slightly, the report found. The FDNY's response times to fires and medical emergencies remained stable.

But the number of homeless adults moving into city shelters went up.

De Blasio has pledged to combat homelessness a centerpiece of his administration.
