Manhattan Drug Ring Leader Gets Prison

Authorities say a Manhattan drug ring leader has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. says the defendant, 39-year-old Thomas Luckey, pleaded guilty in January to grand larceny, conspiracy and drug charges.

It's part of a larger case that's resulted in 34 guilty pleas so far.

Authorities say Luckey worked with co-conspirators to obtain, package, transport and sell cocaine and crack. The drugs were sold to an undercover detective in Harlem.

In 2013, investigators also determined that Luckey and his co-conspirators were running an oxycodone ring.

Luckey recruited and paid people to bring stolen and forged prescriptions to pharmacies throughout the state.

Sometimes pharmacy employees were involved.

The pills were then sold on the street.
